Underwriters Laboratories UL-1746
Part III jacketed construction provides 360 degree double wall
protection. It consists of a steel inner shell built to UL-58
and a fiberglass outer shell in accordance with UL-1746. The jacket
design is classified as Type II meaning the outer shell completely
encompasses the inner vessel.
This double wall design offers
some distinct advantages. The fiberglass jacket can extend up
the separator manway and piping connections to the first flange
providing added protection. Leaks can be detected earlier with
this design due to the fact that the interstitial space is small
and, therefore, less liquid volume is required to activate float
type leak detection probes. This design is also the most economical.
The outer fiberglass shell is
100 mils (1/8") minimum thickness. Due to inherent resistance
of fiberglass to soil environments, the separator comes with a
30 year warranty against external corrosion failure. No anodes,
piping electrical isolations, or cathodic test stations are required
with this system.
For a jacketed Type II double
wall oil-water separator, add a "-DW-L" to the end of
the separator model. (For example: OWS-1000-DW-L).
